The Onion Dialogues TM is a racial equity and social justice workshop that calls participants in—rather than calling them out.
The Onion Dialogues is designed to help small groups build a foundation to openly address racial equity in daily discussions and programming. From boards of directors, to office colleagues, to community organizations, The Onion Dialogues creates a safe space to learn and un-learn while developing tools to keep race and racism "on the table" as participants and groups move forward through increased self-awareness and intentional changes in organizational culture, policies, and practices.
Digging beyond such important topics as diversity, equity, and inclusion, The Onion Dialogues probes our current-day use of vocabulary, examines our past history, offers a deeper understanding around micro-aggressions, and explores the dangers and invisibility of racism.
The program helps participants ask, "what does racial equity mean?" while exploring relatable examples of bias, equity, racial justice, and anti-racism to help support participants through their own unique learning journey.
Trainers Tamara Copeland and Amy Owen live in the Greater Washington D.C., Maryland, Virginia area and offer this two-day program in person and virtually.
Like an onion, exploring racial inequities is a process that must be peeled back a layer at a time.
